KCMO Offers 10 Years Property Tax Abatement for Our Neighborhood
There are nearly 100 Urban Renewal Areas throughout Kansas City, including the Longfellow neighborhood. In these areas, owner-occupied single-family homes can apply for property tax abatement during their construction or rehabilitation. Owners must spend at least $5,000 on the project to qualify and the project must be in compliance with the LCRA’s (Land Clearance for Redevelopment Authority) Rehabilitation Guidelines. At least 25% of the project costs must be for exterior improvements. Projects costing less than $25,000 pay a $30 application fee, while projects of $25,000 or more pay a $130 application fee.
Applicants simply complete the tax abatement application, attach the necessary documentation, and send the application, along with the application fee, to the LCRA at 1100 Walnut Street, Suite 1700, Kansas City, MO 64106.
LCRA staff will contact you to schedule an inspection of your project. After your property inspection is approved, LCRA staff will prepare and submit a Certificate of Tax Abatement to the County Assessor. This “freezes” the taxable assessed value of your property for 10 years. Your annual property tax savings will stay in your pocket!
If you have questions, please call the LCRA staff at 816-691-2106 for assistance.

Field Notes from Longfellow Farm
Summer is in full swing and we've been reaping the rewards of all our hard work this year. The farm's summer crops are growing well in spite of the drought. Each week the harvest is distributed to our Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) members and anyone who volunteers during our work days. It is hard to believe that we are already preparing to put fall crops in the ground!
Neighbors and friends work together every Saturday, 8-11 am, and most Wednesday evenings, 6:30-8 pm. It is these many hands and heads and hearts that make Longfellow Farm possible, and we always need more people involved. We hope you will join us to get your hands dirty sometime soon!
